My Family Blog Begins

This is going to be my lazy way of keeping track of things I find on the web of my genealogy.
Things found today: can add Angelina Jolie to absurd list of distant cousins. Along with a Cloutier-Watt (spokesman for Inuit), Marshall Gauvin (wrote about religion, freethinker!), a bunch of hockey players named Cloutier, etcetera.
Douglass = Black Green meaning a dark river. Same Gaelic root Dubh as Dublin, which means Black Pool. Black Pool, England faces Dublin (okay maybe that's a stretch).
Coughlin & Conway are Gaelic, while Powers (my third Irish surname in the tree) is Norman, I think. There is a Stewart of Atholl Clan, so since Christian Stewart was of Atholl maybe that's the right Clan. That Louise Cloutier was married to a settler who learned Native languages, was kidnapped by Iroquois and drowned when Louise was just 17. Childless she remarried to become my ancestor, actually had a third husband as well.

  1. re: GREAT INFO on Francoise GRENIER/Garnier.

This is bogus information. I did an extensive search on Quebec databases and there's no evidence whatever that she was born in France.
Families who want to distance themselves from being Native will fabricate this information. The couple had a daughter (Jeanne I believe who came to New France) but she was not the sister of Francoise.
